Charles Giancarlo is a seasoned executive with more than 30 years of experience in communications and technology entrepreneurship. Charles has been managing director of a Silicon Valley-based leading private equity firm since 2007. He serves as head of the firm’s value creation team.
Previously, he spent nearly 15 years at Cisco Systems, where he last held the role of executive vice president and chief development officer, responsible for all business units and divisions and more than 30,000 employees.
Mr. Giancarlo also was president of Cisco-Linksys, LLC, starting in June 2004. Charles joined Cisco when the company acquired Kalpana Inc., a pioneer in ethernet switching. He was an early developer of both asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) and switched ethernet technologies, and he holds multiple patents in ATM and voice technologies. Charles founded four communications equipment companies and sold two of them to larger companies.
Charles is founder and director of ItsOn and is on the boards of several other organizations, including Avaya, Accenture, Soraa, Blue Jeans Network and Brown University. Giancarlo also recently served as a director of Netflix and Skype and as chief executive officer of Avaya.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Brown, a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley and an MBA from Harvard University.
